Hudson Bay, SK – The 5th annual Cade Sprackman Safety Day takes place today at the Hudson Bay Community School, organized by Saskatchewan Safety Council. Cade Sprackman grew up in Hudson Bay, SK, with his sister, two brothers, and loving parents. On January 27th, 2015, after recently graduating high school and moving to Saskatoon for a job, Cade was involved in a preventable workplace incident that took his life. He was only 18 years old. The Cade Sprackman Safety Day sees community representatives from local businesses and organizations join teachers, parents, and volunteers in guiding students through an “Amazing Safety Quest”, an obstacle course with activities focussed on the early development of safety knowledge relevant to Saskatchewan workplaces and environments. Participating high school students student’s also complete Career Safety Education – a series of free online workplace safety training programs that help establish a foundation of knowledge for any new worker by increasing participants' awareness of hazards and providing a baseline understanding of how to manage the risks present in a broad variety of industries. Involved in the day’s activities will be representatives from Craig Home Hardware, Canadian Welding Bureau, H B Construction, Life Saving Society, Local Emergency Services, Osihcikewin Trades Training, the RCMP, Saskatchewan Health Authority, Saskatchewan North Acquired Brain Injury, Saskatchewan Snowmobile Safety Association, hosts Saskatchewan Safety Council, the Town of Hudson Bay, and Weyerhaeuser. For the first time, a concurrent Cade Sprackman Safety Day event is taking place in Assiniboia with help from representatives of 3M, Hutch Ambulance, Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association, Saskatchewan Safety Council, and local teachers and volunteers from Assiniboia Composite High School. The Council intends to expand to additional communities in 2025. Weyerhaeuser in Hudson Bay are proud Champion-level sponsors of the Saskatchewan Safety Council supporting efforts to expand the Cade Sprackman Safety Day initiative throughout the region.
