Council Launches New In-Person Volunteer-Delivered Resources and Calls for Volunteers

Complimenting the Council's rich library of free online safety training and the very popular free in-person Mature Driver Refresher Course, today the Council officially announces two new free offerings: its Safe-Tea series of in-person information sessions for older adults, and Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter training.

Delivered by volunteer Community Safety Champions, a Safe-Tea is an informal presentation created to deliver injury prevention and safety information to community residents in a clear and concise manner.

Engaging and conversational, there are currently three Safe-Tea titles in the series, each varying in duration from 1 – 1.5 hours.

  • Safety for the Aging Driver
  • Home Fall Prevention
  • Fraud Prevention

The information provided during a Safe-Tea is not only pertinent to older adults but also beneficial to their families, caregivers, and community service providers. Other Safe-Tea sessions in development will focus on emergency and disaster preparation, fire prevention and safety, mental health and more.

The Saskatchewan Safety Council’s brand-new Safe Saskatchewan Babysitter will also be delivered free-of-charge throughout Saskatchewan by volunteer Community Safety Champions, this represents a major shift to how youth may attain babysitter training throughtout the province.

For approximately 62 years, the Council has provisioned resources for the delivery of a Babysitter Training program that had typically been charged for by the individual or organization delivering the resource. This new volunteer-delivered free program better aligns the Council's goals of making safety and injury prevention information accessible for everyone in Saskatchewan.

If you would like to volunteer with us while building positive and supportive connections in your community, consider becoming one of our Community Safety Champions. To do so, please review the information on this page and complete the Volunteer Training Request form at the bottom: https://www.sasksafety.org/volunteer.html

Thank you for your continued interest in safety and injury prevention.
